Delivered

At a centre

The Rainbow Room is a non-profit neurodiversity awareness centre run by and for parents, families and friends of people with developmental and behavioural differences, including Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, ADHD and genetic conditions. It works on a parent-to-parent model: information, experience and encouragement passed between families rather than delivered from above.

The programme is broader than a support group. There are regular parent meetings, monthly talks, workshops aimed squarely at parents' own wellbeing rather than their child's, inclusive play groups that mix children of different ages and abilities with their siblings, family activities, a lending library of books and research, and self-advocacy programmes for the individuals themselves.

The sibling support deserves a special mention. Brothers and sisters carry a lot and are rarely given anywhere to put it down.
