LEAP, the Learning and Educational Advocacy Program, is a parent-run support and advocacy group for families of children with additional learning and developmental needs. It connects newer parents with those further down the road, points families toward assessors and therapists, and runs seminars, workshops and informal coffee mornings on learning difficulties, developmental delay, sensory integration, attention and autism.

There is no fee and no clinical service here. What it gives you is the thing that is hardest to buy: other parents who have already worked out which assessment is worth paying for, which school actually delivers what it promises, and how to get a school to act.

Worth knowing

Do not confuse this with the US organisation of the same name and acronym, which operates in Palm Beach County, Florida. They are unrelated. Search results mix them up constantly.

What they offer

  • Parent-to-parent mentoring
  • Referrals to assessors and therapists
  • Seminars and workshops
  • Informal coffee meet-ups
