RIS runs a Learning Support programme spanning Pre-K to Grade 12 for students with identified difficulties in reading, writing or maths. Entry is not informal. A referral triggers a full psychological and educational evaluation of a student's academic, cognitive and social-emotional profile, the results are discussed with parents and teachers, and only then is a student enrolled in the programme. Exiting requires a similar assessment.
That structure is a genuine strength. It means support is based on data rather than a teacher's hunch, and that a child is not parked in a support programme indefinitely once they no longer need it.
