Rajanukul is Thailand's national institute for children with intellectual disabilities, operating under the Department of Mental Health. It runs outpatient clinics for children from birth to 18 with intellectual disability, learning disorders and emotional or behavioural difficulties, plus specialist clinics for Down syndrome, genetic counselling and learning disorders, an early intervention service for children aged 0 to 6, parent management training, and its own departments of special education and medical rehabilitation.
It belongs in this directory for a reason nobody else here can match: cost. Private assessment and therapy in Bangkok runs to tens of thousands of baht, and a great many families, Thai and foreign, simply cannot pay it. Rajanukul is the public route, and it is a serious institution with a research and training function, not a last resort.
Worth knowing
Services are delivered in Thai and waiting times can be long. Bring a Thai-speaking friend or interpreter. Foreign nationals should call ahead to confirm eligibility and what documents to bring.
